Secret mission groom
Share
You might remember a while back when I posted about the "James Bond fail" custom order. Well, the universe decided I needed another secret agent mission. Another groom-to-be reached out with a very similar, equally sneaky request: he needed a custom pendant that doubled as a covert, wearable ring box for an upcoming proposal.
The catch? I had exactly two weeks. Two weeks to take this from a concept to a fully polished, ring-hiding, Sterling silver vault. Oh, and the engagement ring itself wasn't made by me, meaning the internal cavity had to fit perfectly based on measurements alone. Sweaty palms? Just a little.
With a ticking clock, this wasn't the time to reinvent the wheel or engineer complex, unpredictable hidden hinges. We needed a mechanism that was smart, completely secure, and achievable within the tight schedule. The solution was brilliantly simple: we used a ready-made carabiner-style loop at the top, locked down tight with a tiny screw. It sealed the two halves of the pendant shut, meaning the groom held the ultimate control over when this piece would open.
Let's talk about the design. On the outside, it’s a beautifully detailed zodiac shield featuring a Crab and two Fish - a nod to their signs. It looks like a solid, heavy-duty silver amulet. But the real magic is on the inside.
Once unscrewed, the pendant opens to reveal a stunningly detailed engraving of a skeleton couple looking lovingly into each other's empty eye sockets, surrounded by roses. (Proof that romance is, in fact, not dead). And nestled perfectly over that engraving? The engagement ring.
Now here is where this guy earns his absolute legend status. They flew out for a vacation, and he actually gave her the pendant before the proposal. She loved it. She wore it. She kept it close to her heart for weeks. She was literally carrying her own engagement ring around on her chest, completely oblivious to the precious cargo inside. I can only imagine his internal panic watching her fiddle with her necklace, praying she didn't magically find a microscopic screwdriver.
Unlike the previous project, this one went smoothly - when the scenery was right and the perfect moment finally arrived, he casually asked to see the pendant, unscrewed the secret lock, and popped the question.
She couldn't believe it. But of course, she said YES! 🖤
