The James Bond Fail

The James Bond Fail

This is the kind of request that makes me double-check if I accidentally set my Shopify category to "Secret Agent Supplies."

A customer reached out a few months back with a proposal plan so elaborate it bordered on a heist movie plot. The mission? He wanted to hide an engagement ring on his girlfriend’s body without her knowing, so he could trigger the surprise whenever the moment felt right.

The "Security System"

Since I haven’t quite mastered miniaturized fingerprint scanners for sterling silver yet (give me a few more years), we had to go old-school mechanical.

We designed a heavy-duty, sealed locket. It wasn't just a piece of jewelry; it was a vault. To make sure she didn't accidentally stumble upon her own ring while looking for her keys, the design featured small holes at the bottom for sealing rods.

The plan was brilliant in its absurdity: the ring would be locked inside, and when the time came, he would whip out a pair of cutters, snip the rods, and free the ring right off her neck. It’s romantic, it’s slightly industrial, and it’s 100% unique.

The Finer Details

Of course, if you’re going to carry a secret vault around your neck, it should at least look beautiful. We went all out on the craftsmanship:

A Rotating Heart: A kinetic element inside the frame because, why not?

Custom Engravings: Personal touches hidden within the silver.

The Build: Solid Sterling silver with a hinged porthole design that looked like a piece of high-end industrial art.

When it left my workshop, it looked fantastic. I was genuinely proud. I spent the next few months wondering: Did he do it at dinner? On a mountain? Did he get tackled by security for pulling out cutters in public?

The Plot Twist

I finally followed up to see how the "Grand Cutters Proposal" went.

The result: She lost the pendant before he ever got the chance to open it! 😱

Somewhere out there, there is a very confused person (or a very lucky one) holding a sealed silver locket with a hidden engagement ring and a rotating heart. If you find it, you’re going to need some wire cutters and a lot of explaining to do.

To my customer: You are a legend for trying.

To everyone else: If you have a crazy idea, I'm your guy, just maybe get a sturdier chain.

Have a crazy jewelry idea of your own? Let’s build something unforgettable (and hopefully un-losable) together.
