Top Secret: A Custom Order Mystery
Share
We’ve all got those items. You know the ones, the "don't ask, just keep it safe" objects that hold more meaningful weight than their actual mass.
Usually, when a customer asks for a custom piece, I get the full backstory. I hear about the grandmother’s ring, the anniversary date, how they met, or the lucky charm from a trip to Thailand. But this time? Total radio silence on the why, but a very loud how.
The Hand-Off
I found myself driving specifically to meet a customer to pick up a single 1 New Israeli Shekel coin. For those of you checking the exchange rate, that’s about 27 cents. I probably spent more on the podcast I was listening to during the drive than the coin is worth at the grocery store.
The instructions were clear and slightly terrifying: "Do not lose this coin." I was sworn to its protection like I was carrying a piece of the holy grail. I half-expected a secret handshake or a smoke bomb exit. Instead, I just had a very shiny, very important piece of pocket change and a mission to turn it into a dignified jewel.
From Pocket Change to Heirloom
When I got back to the bench, I looked at it. It’s a standard Shekel. But in the world of custom jewelry, the value isn't in the metal - it's in the meaning.
I wanted to create something that framed the mystery. I designed a sleek, teardrop-style silver frame that lets the coin "float." No gaudy bezels, no hiding the edges. Just clean lines and high-polish silver to give that 1-shekel piece the royal treatment it clearly deserved.
The Result
We may never know if this coin was the first shekel he ever earned, a lucky coin from a life-changing day, or perhaps it’s actually a micro-chip for a foreign government (okay, maybe I’ve watched too many movies).
What I do know is that it came out looking absolutely fire. It’s minimalist, modern, and carries a weight that has nothing to do with gravity.
Do you have a "mysterious" heirloom or a lucky charm gathering dust in a drawer? Whether it's a rare coin or a pebble from a special beach, I’m ready to help you wear your story.
