Tony’s Story: Who's a good boy?
Share
A lot of jewelry passed through my hands, but every once in a while, a project comes along that stops the workshop clock. This wasn't a "treat yourself" purchase or a standard anniversary gift. This was about honoring Tony.
When my client reached out, he was navigating that specific, quiet hollow that follows the loss of a best friend. He’d already gone the distance to keep Tony close, having his pup's portrait tattooed on his skin, but he had one more piece of the puzzle: Tony’s original dog tag.
The goal? to create a case for that tag that felt as substantial and permanent as the bond they shared.
The Design: More Than a Container
Brainstorming with my customer, we didn't want to just bag the tag. We wanted to build a "memorial display vault" for it. The result is a custom-engineered, sleek geometric locket that balances heavy-duty craftsmanship with some seriously sentimental tech.
The Peek-a-Boo Window: The front features a precision-cut window that perfectly frames Tony’s name.
The Flip: Here’s where it gets clever. The internal placement allows the tag to be flipped. Whether you’re feeling the English side or the Hebrew side, Tony’s name stays front and center.
The Soul of the Piece: On the back side, I hand-engraved a custom portrait of Tony. It’s a permanent, gold-etched tribute to a dog who was clearly the very best boy!
A Little Humor to Heal
Let’s be real, dogs are better than humans. They don't complain about your music taste (my Ozzy is definitely a metalhead by now), they think your jokes are hilarious, and they’re always down for a 2:00 AM snack. While I can’t bring back the tail wags or the "I just ate your shoe" guilty faces, I can make sure that when my client feels for that weight around his neck, he knows Tony is right there with him, always.
