The Two-Year Quest
Share
Finding the perfect gift for a Viking fanatic is surprisingly difficult. You’d think with all the axes and drinking horns out there, it would be a breeze. But when your son knows his material, a generic mall necklace just isn’t going to cut it.
Enter Katti.
Katti had been on a literal two-year odyssey to find a gift that felt worthy. She didn't want a mass-produced hunk of mystery metal, she wanted something that looked like it had been pulled straight from an archaeological dig in Scandinavia - but, you know, shinier and more wearable.
When she finally landed in my inbox, the "Quest for the Holy Grail" of Viking jewelry was officially on.
The Brainstorming
We spent some time tossing ideas back and forth. Should it be a hammer? A rune? A stylized beard comb? (Made one once!).
Finally, we landed on the big one: Odin.
But we didn't want the "old man in a bathrobe" version of Odin. We wanted the King of the Gods in his warrior-knight form. We decided on a heavy-duty dog tag style - a piece that will give a modern feel to the ancient mythology.
More Than Just a God
Designing this piece was a blast. I sculpted a high-relief portrait of the All-Father, armored up and ready for whatever the Nine Realms threw at him. But Odin isn’t Odin without his feathered informants.
I added his two ravens, Huginn (Thought) and Muninn (Memory), right there with him. In the myths, these two fly across the world every single day and report back to Odin's shoulders.
To top it off, I framed the scene with a crescent moon to give it that "watching over the world at night" vibe.
The Verdict
I’m incredibly proud of how this one turned out. Seeing Katti’s search finally come to an end with a piece that actually meant something is why I do this. It’s rugged, it’s detailed, and it’s officially ready for the gates of Valhalla.
Her son loved it!
If you’ve got a fanatic in your life (or you are the fanatic, no judgment here), let’s build something legendary together.
