The King of Rams: A Mother’s Tribute

The King of Rams: A Mother’s Tribute

Creating a memorial piece is a heavy gig. It’s one thing to polish a ring for a Tuesday afternoon impulse buy, it’s another thing entirely to realize you’re casting a "trembling meaning" into molten metal. There’s a weight to it that doesn't show up on the jewelry scale, and when Sharon reached out to me, I felt that weight immediately.

Sharon wanted to create something truly monumental for her son, Guy, to honor the memory of his brother, Roy. Roy was an Aries through and through, and Sharon knew a standard, mass-produced zodiac charm wasn't going to cut it. We needed something that captured the fire, the leadership, and the presence of a man who left a king-sized hole in their lives.

We went "King of the Rams."

The Build: Grit, Glory, and a Bit of Sweat

I started with Sterling Silver for the ram itself. I wanted that deep, oxidized texture to make the horns look like they’d actually seen some battles. But a king needs his crown. So I designed a 14K Gold crown to sit atop that stubborn head, creating a contrast that hits you immediately: the grit of the silver meeting the glory of the gold.

Then came the icing on the cake. We set the crown with Diamonds and Garnets. The garnets bring that deep, blood-red Aries fire, while the diamonds add a spark that reminds you of the light Roy brought into the room.

More Than Metal

There were moments where the air felt a little thicker than usual. You find yourself talking to the piece, hoping you're doing the memory justice. Rams can be notoriously difficult (both the animals and the metalwork), but as the final polish came together, I could feel the energy of the piece change, and I knew I did good.

It stopped being a project and started being a bridge - a connection between Sharon’s love, Guy’s loss, and Roy’s legacy. It’s a piece built to be worn, lived in, and passed down.

Would you like me to help you design a piece that carries your own meaningful story? Let's talk, send me a DM.
