The Compass That Found Its North

My workbench usually looks like a chaotic crime scene of metal shavings and half-finished ideas. But every once in a while, an order lands in my inbox that makes me clear the clutter, sit up straight, and think, "Okay, I need to get this exactly right."
This wasn't a "match my outfit" kind of request. This was a "this is who I am now" kind of request.
The goal was to create a Moon Cycle Compass Ring. But instead of pointing toward a magnetic pole, this needle was designed to navigate the phases of a life. My customer came to me with a story of transformation - the kind that doesn't happen overnight. It was the journey from living in the closet to finally standing fully, unapologetically open to the world.
The Crafting Process
Working with 14K gold is a dream, but we wanted this piece to feel "earned." We didn't want a factory-perfect, mirror-finish band. Life is a bit more rugged than that, so I gave the gold a heavy, organic texture, like it’s been through a few storms and came out stronger on the other side. We realized it resembles the moon's surface, which made it even better.
The centerpiece is the moon cycle. We have the waxing and waning phases etched into the face, with a genuine diamond set right at the heart of the needle.
The coolest part? The needle actually spins. (And yes, I spent a good hour spinning it myself just to make sure the "fidget factor" was on spot). It represents the constant movement of our lives. We aren't static. We wax, we wane, we go through dark patches, but the diamond, your inner truth, is always there once you look for it.
More Than Just Metal
There’s a real gravity to a piece like this. Once that diamond was finally set, it felt less like I’d finished a piece of jewelry and more like I’d forged a heroic life story relic. It’s solid, it’s unique, and it’s a reminder that the path out of the shadows is one you never have to walk back.
Whether you're celebrating a major life shift, a new beginning, or you just want something that finally feels like you, I’m here to help you design it.
