The Celtic Knot

The Celtic Knot

Most modern men’s jewelry can occasionally be a bit… predictable. You usually see the same three silver bands or a plain black stud that looks like it was found in the forgotten bin of a 90's mall kiosk.

So when a customer reached out wanting a custom earring that felt like it belonged to a modern-day Viking with a penchant for luxury, my interest was immediately piqued. The brief is a thick 14k gold hoop, a complex Celtic knotwork pattern, and a centered green emerald, what a treat.

The Knot So Simple Part

If you’ve ever tried to untangle a pair of wired headphones, you have a small idea of what designing Celtic knots is like. These patterns are meant to be infinite - no beginning, no end, just a seamless flow of gold. Getting that texture to look crisp on a piece this size requires a level of precision that makes me want to squint just thinking about it.

We went with a wide-profile hoop to give the design room to breathe. I wanted the knots to look deep and structural, not just scratched onto the surface.

The Green-Eyed Monster (The Good Kind)

Then came the emerald. Emeralds are moody; they’re the divas of the gemstone world. But for that Celtic design, nothing else felt right. It had to be that specific, lush green that makes you think of mossy Irish cliffs and legendary folklore. Tucking that vibrant stone right into the center of the gold braid was the chef’s kiss moment this piece needed.

The Final Result

When I finally finished it, I took a second to just look at it. It’s heavy, it’s bold, and it’s got a personality that says, "I know exactly who I am, and yes, I'm a modern pirate, ahoi matey!"

Seeing a custom order come to life is always a trip. It’s taking a "what if" from a customer's head and turning it into a physical object that will probably be worn for the next fifty years.

Do you have a "what if" idea for a piece of jewelry? Whether it’s an ancient symbol or just something you saw in a dream once, let's make it real.
