Paws in the sand

This is exactly why I love what I do. It’s not just about the jewelry, it’s about the secret missions I get to be a part of.
If you’ve ever seen me on the street, there's a good chance you caught me mid-shmooze with a random dog. I’m that person. I lose my shit the moment a tail wags. So, when Mark’s wife reached out to me with a plan for a surprise gift, I was all in.
Mark isn't just a dog lover - he’s a professional dog trainer. This is a man who spends his life reading tails, ears, and paw placements. Trying to surprise a guy whose literal job is noticing the small things is a bold move, and I was honored to be the accomplice.
The Secret Mission: Silver & Grit
The goal was to create something that felt as rugged and real as a day on the trails. We didn't want a shiny, delicate trinket. Mark works in the dirt, the rain, and the "good boy" moments of life. This piece needed to reflect that.
We went with a heavy, octagonal frame. It’s got a bit of an architectural "don't mess with me" vibe that fits the RBZ aesthetic perfectly.
I gave the background a deep, oxidized, topographical texture. It looks like dried mud on a hiking boot or a weathered trail map.
Deeply recessed into the metal are two prints: a human footprint and a dog paw. Side-by-side.
I imagine Mark’s wife had to be pretty stealthy to get these prints without him suspecting anything. I like to picture her waiting for him to nap or distracting the dog with a yummy treat while she made the magic happen.
The Result
The final pendant is a tribute to the miles Mark has walked, the dogs he’s helped, and the woman who clearly knows exactly what makes his heart tick. It’s a piece of his story that says, "I see the work you do, and I’m walking right there with you."
Have a story you want to freeze in precious metal? Whether it’s a surprise for a loved one or a treat for yourself, let's create something that actually means something.
(And seriously, go hug your dog for me)
