Mr. Big's ring

Mr. Big's ring

Some people are dainty jewelry people.
Mr. Big is not one of them.

He recently approached me with a handful of stones - a deep square ruby and some emeralds, and a request for something "majestic." Now, majestic is a big word, but it matched his hands. I’m talking about fingers so substantial that if he wore a standard-sized ring, it would look like he was wearing a gold-plated Cheerio.

I knew right away that this needed to be built from the ground up.

Wax On, Wax Off

The process started with a block of jeweler’s wax and a lot of caffeine. Because the stones were unique and the finger size was… let’s call it "pro athlete scale,".

Hand-carving wax is a bit like being a tiny architect. You’re shaving off microns of material to ensure those stones don’t just sit there, but actually belong there. I wanted the gold to wrap around that ruby like it was guarding a treasure room. There’s something satisfying about carving a seat for a stone that someone has carried around in a pocket, waiting for the right moment to let it shine.

The Royal Bomb

Once the wax was perfected and cast into 14K gold, the result was an absolute royal bomb!

It’s got weight. It’s got presence. It’s the kind of ring that makes a statement before you even open your mouth. The contrast between the ruby and the punchy green of the emeralds against that polished gold is nothing short of regal.

Mr. Big was thrilled, and honestly, so was I. It’s not every day you get to build a piece of armor for someone’s hand.

Do you have a shoebox of loose stones or a vision for a piece that needs a masterful design? Whether you have dainty digits or hands that require a forklift, I’m here to sculpt something that actually fits your personality (and your finger).
