From Mystery Metal to Modern Classic

We’ve all been there, you have that one piece of jewelry you have no idea where you got it from, but absolutely love, even though you know deep down, it’s held together with a prayer and some industrial-grade glue.
When Ayala approached me with her favorite Amazonite stone, it was stuck to a cheap mystery material ring that had seen better days. It was the jewelry equivalent of a diamond being held up by a paperclip. Now, if you know my work, you know this isn’t exactly my usual aesthetic. I usually lean into different kinds of edge. But here’s a secret: when people ask nicely (and having a gorgeous stone won't hurt), I’m a total pushover for a good transformation.
The Rescue Mission
The mission was simple but high-stakes: rescue the Amazonite from its cheap, crumbling base and give it a home that would actually last. We decided on a Solid Sterling Silver setting, something clean, substantial, and, as Ayala put it, a "timeless classic."
Working with a stone that’s already been "pre-loved" in a previous setting is always a bit like surgery. You have to be careful not to hurt the gem while getting rid of the old gunk. But once that greenish-blue beauty was freed from its sketchy past, the silver practically designed itself around it.
The Result
The finished piece is a heavy-hitter. It’s got that satisfying weight that only real silver provides, cradling the oval Amazonite in a way that lets the natural variations of the stone do the talking. No glue, no mystery alloys - just craft and the natural character of metal & stone.
Seeing the photos of Ayala happy and wearing it is exactly why I do this. It went from a cheap pawn shop piece to a "pass this down" heirloom.
Why Amazonite?
Beyond looking like a tropical lagoon trapped in a rock, Amazonite is often called the "Stone of Courage." It’s meant to soothe the spirit and calm the soul. Whether or not you believe in the crystal energy, you can't deny that it looks incredible against the high-polish shine of the silver.
The best part? I can do this with almost anything. If you’ve got a stone sitting in a drawer or a ring that’s falling apart but holds a world of memories, I can rebuild it, so get in touch.
