Capturing the Frenchie Piglet Energy
Share
Let’s be honest, French Bulldogs are less like dogs and more like little, snorting, high-velocity potatoes with bat ears. When a client approached me to create custom pendants of Zack and Pepper, I knew I wasn't just making jewelry, I was attempting to bottle up two very specific flavors of chaos.
The Double-Trouble Dilemma
At first glance, Zack and Pepper look like a matching set. But look closer, and you’ll see the artistic curveball they threw my way. Zack sports a sophisticated black patch over one eye, while Pepper opted for a "Phantom of the Opera" half-mask that covers nearly half her face.
The challenge? I wanted these pendants to feel like a cohesive pair - a "design language" that spoke the same dialect, while still resembling Zack and Pepper.
Solving the Facial Puzzle
Turning a living, breathing "piglet" into a piece of wearable art requires more than just a cookie-cutter mold. If I went too realistic, the pendants would look like tiny, heavy statues. If I went too abstract, they’d just look like generic bat-eared blobs.
I decided to play with negative space and texture, I used a bold, open-work outline to capture that signature Frenchie head shape. To translate their unique fur patterns, I utilized deep oxidation for the dark bits.
By keeping the line weight and styling identical, I could let their asymmetrical facial markings take center stage without the pendants looking like they belonged to two different collections.
The result? A set of pendants that are as unique as their snoring habits. One look and you know exactly who is who - Zack’s cheeky patch and Pepper’s bold mask, forever preserved in Sterling silver.
